It would appear that I have gone sometime without doing laundry (aka having forced time to sit and write a blog post for fear that 4 loads of clothing would be swiped by some transient gypsy that frequents the One World CafĂ©). There are almost too many things to write about – too many rants, too many items that could be new news for some and old rehashed tales for others – what to do, what to do.
As I type this I have already had 4 new emails download to my computer (all work, of course & on a Saturday night). With subject lines like: Marriner Eccles, Faculty Fellowship, Non-State Governance, & India:Hotel Confirmation I realize that my inbox is not the type most would like to trade-in for. Work is still work, and I still avoid posting anything in too much details about my job. One thing I will say is that today at the grocery store I had the awkward sighting of a former employee that you expect just evaporates into the ether after leaving. It was one of those situations where you are not sure who saw who first and who is more uncomfortable by the recognition of the other. After 5 seconds I didn’t really care, I was more concerned about getting my Pumpkin ice cream to a refrigerated locale (which, by the way, I left in my trunk for a solid hour before being unpacked – it’s new home is the dumpster behind my building. $2.99 in the trash). Quick eye contact and she rushed up the canned food aisle. Hmm, guess it wasn't a big deal after all.
In other news – it’s Halloween at Disneyland. I should be there right now but the spontaneous travel plans were postponed due to the schedule of others. I can’t complain, I can wait another two weeks to go – the Haunted Mansion will still be decked out in the Nightmare Before Christmas garb, the caramel apples will still be just as good.
Side note: of the 3 washing machines I am occupying right now I am pretty sure one of them is about to launch into a geosynchronous orbit any moment now)
Back to Halloween: After witnessing the joy of Disneyland at Halloween last year I have made a concerted effort to get back there this year. My campaigning and cajoling have resulted in a late month weekend that, universe willing, will be rad. I will work through fall break (maybe take a 3-day weekend to enjoy the new Waldorf Astoria lodge near the Canyons resort) and reward my endeavors with an overly expensive trip to see Jack Skelington and take a day trip up to Magic Mountain (for some real roller coasters).
I will be sure to keep the travel plans updated here (if things fall through I’m sure I will use this as an outlet to bemoan the obstacle(s) that prevent my pending vacation. Until next time (I do laundry).
PS: I’m pissed that they installed new washers and dryers and jacked up the price – I guess after an entire year of having 1 of 4 dryers always busted they decided to fund the repair by raising the cost of a wash $.50 (bastards!)
